Rubbish removal before handover: what to organise first
Rubbish removal is most efficient when materials are identified and separated before loading. It also helps avoid surprises involving prohibited, hazardous or unusually heavy items.
Describe the load accurately
Provide photographs showing the full pile, individual bulky items and access from the street. Mention stairs, lifts, narrow passages or long carrying distances. Volume, weight, sorting and disposal requirements can all affect a quote.
Separate ordinary household items from green waste, construction materials, soil, paint, chemicals, batteries, gas cylinders and e-waste. Some materials require specialist handling or different disposal locations.
Clear rubbish before the final clean
Where possible, remove waste before detailed cleaning and lawn work. Carrying items through the property can introduce dust, mark floors and block access to rooms or outdoor edges.
Keep anything that must remain at the property clearly separated and labelled. Documents, keys, remotes and small fixtures can be accidentally discarded when mixed with a larger load.
Ask where it is going
A responsible provider should explain how waste will be handled and identify items they cannot accept. Retain the quote and invoice as part of the property handover record.
